Teen Pregnancy

With all that said, do you think shows like MTV’s “Teen Mom” and “Sixteen and Pregnant” are glamorizing major issues like teen pregnancy and parenthood? Are they doing more harm than good? Though these shows at times show the trials of being a teen mom, often young women may see that these young women have become “stars,” landing on the cover of magazines. In your opinion, what could be done to use these shows to show more of the unglamorous side of being a teen mom?

I definitely agree with the fact that todays shows really make teen pregnancy look fun and glamorous. IN the real workd this isnt the case. I have to give these shows some props however because the work that goes into being a mom is portrayed somewhat in the broadcasts. However most of the time the girls stick their parents with their kids and go out to dinner with friends or even worse to the clubs. They chose to have premarital sex and they need to live with their decisions. I think that it should show youg girls how stupid theyd look if they got pregnant that young too. I think that MTV should pull these shows off the air and instead run a show every now and then about abstinence. But then again you know what they say, “Sex Sells.”

I agree. It doesn’t help the show’s intentions when the girls go out often. At the same time, it conveys that teens still want to have fun and enjoy teenhood and it’s harder to do so with a child.
